What’s the definition of sensitive eyes?

In comparison, the definition of sensitive skin is more clear today.

Sensitive Skin Syndrome (SSS) is defined as the occurrence of subjective, unpleasant sensations in response to a wide variety of external and internal stimuli that normally should not provoke such sensations. Objective signs of skin irritation, such as redness and swelling, are not consistently present. In fact, many people who profess sensitive skin do not predictably experience visible signs of the sensations reported, whereas some who describe themselves as non-sensitive react strongly to tests of objective irritation.

Sensitive eyes hasn’t being clearly defined so far. In a study of 2,048 subjects conducted by Misery and colleagues in 2017, one-half of the population declared to have sensitive eyes.

However there are very different phenomena regarding the term of sensitive eyes from them, and the reasons are also different. For instance, sensitivity to light (Photophobia) is due to disorders of the retina or other intraocular structures.

Ophthalmologists normally do not use the term ‘sensitive eyes’ when complaining of pain or other unpleasant sensations, such as paresthesia or glare. Rather, these individuals speak about ‘discomfort’. These disorders could be related to various intraocular disorders or to corneal disorders.

Therefore, as the term is not clearly defined in medical, from the brand's perspective, we believe that we are not in a position to define "sensitive eyes". As a brand designs and produces its product portfolio with safe, clean and efficacious formulas and ingredients, and prioritizes comfortable non-irritating usage experience and sensation, our positioning and mission is to become the top-of-mind brand when consumers perceive their eye skin to be vulnerable or sensitive, or reactive, seeking for more cautious eye care or eye makeup products , on the condition that their doctors deem it’s still suitable to use skincare products.
